Delaware's Jarvis Threatt Delaware's Jarvis Threatt

Delaware has achieved some significant milestones over the past two seasons. In 2012, the Blue Hens won 19 games and advanced to postseason play for the first time in more than a decade. Last year, UD posted its more CAA victories ever (13), had its highest league finish (t-2nd) and advanced to the semifinals of the CAA Tournament for the first time since 2003.

Expectations remain high this season as the Blue Hens hope to capture their first CAA title. Delaware is loaded in the backcourt with three returning starters and the addition of a transfer guard provides even more firepower.

Leading the Hens is senior Devon Saddler, who topped the CAA and ranked 18th in the nation last year with 19.9 ppg. The first-team all-conference pick enters the season with 1,670 career points, which is the second-highest total of any returning player in Division I behind Creighton All-American Doug McDermott. He is joined by Jarvis Threatt, who earned a spot on the All-CAA third team a year ago. The versatile junior guard was the only player to be ranked among the top 20 in the CAA in scoring (13.0 ppg/14th), rebounding (5.7 rpg/17th), assists (3.2 apg/7th) and steals (1.8 spg/3rd) last season.

Junior Kyle Anderson returns on the wing, where he contributed 9.1 ppg and knocked down a team-best 62 three-pointers. The trio is joined by senior transfer guard Davon Usher, who led the SWAC in scoring (18.8 ppg) last season at Mississippi Valley State.

The question for the Blue Hens is in the post, where CAA Defensive Player of the Year Jamelle Hagins and power forward Josh Brinkley have graduated. UD will rely on senior Carl Baptiste (4.0 ppg, 4.2 rpg), sophomore forward Marvin King-Davis and redshirt freshman Maurice Jeffers to fill the void.

Did You Know: Senior Devon Saddler is on pace to shatter Delaware’s all-time scoring record of 2,030 points, which is currently held by Mike Pegues. If he does so, Saddler will also enter the top 10 on the CAA’s all-time scoring list.
