Injuries to several key players and 10 losses by six points or less resulted in Drexel finishing 13-18 overall (9-9 in CAA) a year ago. However, the Dragons appear to have the pieces in place for a run at the CAA title this season.

Drexel will build around an outstanding trio of veteran guards. Senior Frantz Massenat, a two-time All-CAA selection, returns for his fourth season as the Dragons’ starting point guard. He ranked 10th in the CAA in scoring (14.7 ppg) and second in assists a year ago (4.2 apg).  He is flanked by junior shooting guard Damion Lee, who made the All-CAA second team after finishing third in the league in scoring with 17.1 ppg. Lee reached double figures 23 times and tallied 20 or more points nine times. They are joined by Chris Fouch, a past All-CAA performer who was granted a sixth year of eligibility after suffering a broken ankle in the third game last season. Fouch is one of the most prolific 3-pointers shooters in Dragons’ history with 203 career treys.

The top returnee for Drexel up front is senior forward Dartaye Ruffin, who was 10th in the CAA in rebounding last season (6.8 rpg) and also contributed 6.9 ppg. Wing Tavon Allen is coming off a solid rookie season in which he chipped in 6.6 ppg. Also challenging for a starting spot inside are senior Goran Pantovic (2.1 rpg) and junior Kazembe Abif (4.4 ppg/3.4 rpg).

Among the newcomers who could have an impact for the Dragons are junior guard Freddie Wilson, a transfer from Seton Hall who becomes eligible at the end of the fall semester, freshman guard Major Canady and freshman forward Rodney Williams.

Did You Know: By the time the calendar flips to 2014, Drexel will likely have three 1,000-point scorers on its roster. Graduate student Chris Fouch enters the season with 1,194 points, senior Frantz Massenat has 1,122 points and junior Damion Lee already has 895 points.
