Conference play in CAA men’s basketball gets underway this weekend as defending conference champion James Madison travels to UNCW at 7 p.m. on Saturday.

The Dukes (5-9 overall) are coming off a 73-68 victory over Ball State on Dec. 30. Sophomore guard Charles Cooke, who ranks 9th in the league in scoring with 15.1 ppg, poured in a team-best 20 points and made a career-high six steals against BSU, while sophomore point guard Ron Curry reached double digits for the fourth straight game with 17 points and six assists. The Seahawks (6-9 overall) fell 84-51 at 19th-ranked North Carolina on New Year’s Eve and will be trying to end a four-game slide. Junior forward Cedrick Williams, who contributed 18 points and nine rebounds versus the Tar Heels, leads UNCW and ranks among the top 10 in the conference in scoring (14.4 ppg), rebounding (7.3 rpg) and blocked shots (1.9 bpg).

The rest of the league will be wrapping up non-conference action this weekend. Drexel faces a tough road test at a 12-2 Southern Miss squad on Friday night. On Saturday’s slate, Delaware hosts Cal Poly and College of Charleston entertains Howard, while Towson makes the short trip to Coppin State, William & Mary travels to Western Illinois and Northeastern is at SEC foe Vanderbilt. On Sunday, Hofstra goes to Fairleigh Dickinson for a 4 p.m. contest.

With conference play getting under way, we’ll be providing extensive coverage of CAA men’s basketball. CAA.TV will be traveling to all nine CAA campuses to produce feature stories, and while we’re there, we will provide game coverage with blogs, photos and video of post-game press conferences. The tour starts on Saturday in Delaware where we’ll talk with Blue Hens’ sharpshooter Kyle Anderson.  Here’s Bobby Broyles with more on the upcoming #CAAHoops coverage.
