After a long drive down from Richmond, Va., the #CAAHoops crew arrived in Charleston and is finally ready for some Saturday night men’s basketball action between the Cougars and Northeastern Huskies.
On Friday, we spent time all day interviewing many people from CofC for our “In Focus” video segment on senior Willis Hall and his impressive contributions to ‘The College”, both on and off the court. We also managed to squeeze in time with softball standout Hope Klicker and will speak with Erin Hall of the women’s basketball team tomorrow as part of our Full Court Press pieces.
The CAA.TV staff will be visiting all nine campuses over the next two months to provide in-depth features, post-game press conferences, highlights and much more.
You can follow our coverage of today’s game at the TD Arena in a number of ways. We’ll post a few notes here on the blog in addition to postgame highlights and postgame comments after the game. We’ll use the @CAABasketball timeline on Twitter to provide updates from around the league. You can also follow the #CAAHoops hashtag as we know several of fans and media throughout the league will provide superb commentary. Lastly, don’t forget to take a look at both our Facebook page and Instagram feed for inside looks at the CofC/Northeastern contest.
Be sure to watch for our features with the the Cougs next week (Tuesday and Wednesday).
Follow along below for a live blog and enjoy some #CAAHoops action.
Final: Northeastern 60, College of Charleston 44. Eatherton finishes with 22 and 10, Reggie Spencer with 15 and six boards. Fewest points allowed by NU since Jan. 24 of 2009 at Old Dominion (58-42).
2:00 Left To Play In Second Half: Scott Eatherton has really come on as the second half has progressed, now has double-double with 22 points and 10 boards for NU. The Huskies lead 54-41 and overall, have played much more together this half.
Under Five To Play in Second Half: Huge momentum swings all over the place as the score is now 47-36, Northeastern over CofC. It was as high as 47-31, but a Baru slam and Berry and-one brought the Cougs right back in it before things got out of hand.
7:30 Left In Second Half: Northeastern on a current 6-0 run after a Reggie Spencer and-one hook and basket. The Cougs need some offense and needs it quick. 42-31 now.
12:24 Left In Second Half: College of the Charleston gets some huge baskets in back-to-back form from Chealey and Baru to cut the deficit to 30-26. Northeastern’s Scott Eatherton left game due to picking up his third foul and it showed, at least on defense.
15:25 Left In Second Half: Northeastern has opened up the second half on a 6-2 run to extend the lead to the 28-20 over the host Cougs. CofC is shooting 21.2 percent from the field compared to NU’s 39.3 mark.
Halftime: Northeastern 22, College of Charleston 18. Scott Eatherton leads the way with eight points and four boards, while Reggie Spencer follows with eight points as well. The good news for the Cougars is that the game is a lot closer than it could be….Despite shooting 6-of-25, the hosts still easily hang within striking distance thanks to out-rebounding the Huskies, 18-15, making the most of second chance opportunities.
1:41 Left In First Half: Northeastern continues to shoot fairly well, compared to CofC’s 6-of-24 effort just before the break. Eatherton and Spencer each have eight points, while the Cougs have been led by Hall (6) and Berry (7) offensively. The score stands 22-16 in favor of the Huskies.
13:04 Left In First Half: The Cougars came out with plenty of excitement and urgency, but plenty of misses in the paint and poor 3-point defense have caused an early 13-3 hole for the hosts.
Pregame: After a phenomenal National Anthem sung by a young girl under the age of 10, we’re underway in Charleston. College of Charleston (13-13, 5-6 CAA) welcomes Northeastern (8-18, 5-7 CAA) for a pivotal rematch, while both teams are now tied for fourth in the latest league standings with a 5-6 mark
