PIT Day 1 Recap

Apr 17, 2014, 10:05 AM EDT

All three #CAAHoops players in attendance at the 2014 Portsmouth Invitational Tournament competed in games following Day 1 action on Wednesday at Churchland High School in Portsmouth, Va.

The event is invite-only and features some of the top seniors from college basketball. Players participat in drills, evaluations, plus a 12-game tournament — all in front on NBA and international team representatives.

Two-time CAA Men’s Basketball Player of the Year Jerrelle Benimon, who recently earned MVP honors at the Reese’s College All-Star Game during the Final Four, headlined the three players to represent the league at the PIT on Wednesday night. Benimon grabbed a double-double with 10 points and 14 rebounds and also dished out two assists as his team, Portsmouth Sports Club fell to Roger Brown’s Restaurant, 77-74.

Not to be outdone, Delaware’s Devon Saddler, a first-team All-CAA honoree this past season, played alongside Benimon on the same squad and scored six points on 3-of-6 shooting from the floor in defeat.

In the night’s other contest, fellow UD All-CAA first-team member Davon Usher collected seven points, three boards and two steals as his K&D Rounds Landscaping team fell to Norfolk Sports Club, 71-66.
